MOSCOW, Jan 27 (PRIME) -- Russia will unlikely be disconnected from the global payment system SWIFT because this is not good for anyone, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council Dmitry Medvedev said on Thursday.
"I'll say honestly, I don't believe that anyone will disconnect us from this system because this is bad for everyone, including for the community organized under SWIFT,” Medvedev said.
“Besides we have many transactions there. This would undermine the trust in SWIFT."
Medvedev said that in case of SWIFT disconnection, international payment cards will continue working in Russia, while international transactions will remain available though with bigger difficulties.
Russian will continue to sell oil and gas, which means that the ruble will remain a hard currency. In case of prohibition of transactions with the U.S. dollar and the euro, Russia will support the Chinese economy and undermine those of Europe and the U.S., Medvedev said.
He also said that the fastest launch of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline is in the interests of Europe.
